Health authorities around the world are not slowing down because the “Nipah virus” may spread due to diseases such as “coronavirus.”

 

This disease, which occurred in Malaysia between 1998 and 1999, infected about 300 people and killed more than 100 people at the time, is known to start with sick or contaminated pigs.

 

The “Nipah virus,” which is modeled after the town of “Nipah” in Malaysia, reported more than 600 cases of human infection between 1998 and 2015.

 

Nipah virus is a common virus spread from animals to humans, and when humans are infected, headaches and drowsiness begin, and a fatal situation occurs where people can fall into a coma within a few days.

 

In 2018, 17 people died in Kerala, India, and in 2021, 1 person died in this region, where 2 more people died, and the local health authorities as well as the world are paying attention.

 

The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated “Nipah virus” as an “urgent research and development” on the infectious disease threat list.

 

Currently, the “Nipah virus” has a lethality rate of up to 75%, and fears are spreading.

‘니파바이러스’- 제2의 ‘코로나’로 올 수 있어

‘니파바이러스’가 ‘코로나’와 같은 질병으로 유행할지 몰라 세계의 보건당국은 긴장을 늦추지 않고 있다.

말레이시아에서 1998년부터 1999년 사이에 발생해 당시 약 300명이 감염되고 100명 이상이 사망하기도 한 이 병균은 병든 돼지 또는 오염된 돼지로부터 시작하는 것으로 알려져 있다.

말레이시아의 ‘니파’라는 마을 이름을 본따 부르는 이 ‘니파바이러스’는 1998년부터 2015년 사이에 600건 이상의 인체 감염 사례가 보고되었다.

니파 바이러스는 동물에서 인간으로 전염되는 인수 공통 바이러스로 인간이 감염되면 두통과 졸음이 시작되고, 며칠 안되어 혼수상태에 빠질 수 있는 치명적인 상황이 발생한다.

2018년 인도 케랄라 주에서 발생해 17명이 사망했고, 2021년엔 1명이 사망했던 이 지역은 근간에 2명이 또 사망하는 사건이 발생해 현지 보건당국은 물론 세계가 주의하고 있다.

세계보건기구(WHO)는 전염병 위협 목록에 ‘시급한 연구 개발’로 ‘니파바이러스’를 지정하고 있다.

현재 ‘니파바이러스’는 치사율이 최고 75%로 그 공포가 확산되고 있다.
