22일(현지시간) 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 백악관 기자회견에서 “아세트아미노펜은 기본적으로 타이레놀로 널리 알려져 있는데 임신 중 복용하면 태어날 자녀의 자폐증 위험을 매우 높일 수 있다”고 발언해 의약업계와 임산부들에게 ‘뜨거운 감자’로 논란이 되고 있다.

 

일반적으로 한국의 경우 지난 코로나 위기 시절에 타이레놀은 국민 건강에 기여를 많이 했다.

 

지금도 타이레놀은 몸 상태가 좋지않거나 근육통 등에 진통제로 사람들이 많이 먹는 의약품이다.

 

이 타이레놀의 주요 성분인 아세트아미노펜은 그동안 두통, 발열 및 기타 통증 관리에 가장 안전한 약물로 여겨져 임신 중 유일하게 복용할 수 있는 해열제였기 때문이다.

단, 그동안 자폐증과의 관계가 분명하지않아 임산부의 경우 악영향이 염려되어 왔다.

 

"타이레놀을 복용하지 말라. 아기에게도 주지 말라"고 주장해 온 트럼프 대통령의 발언은 당분간 특히 임산부 관련해 논란이 될 것으로 보인다.
